Original value: 80 · New value: 100
Example resultPercentage change: 25 % · Absolute change: 20
Requires a positive original value. A negative result means a decrease.
Results are rounded for display; calculations use unrounded values. Read our calculation methodology.
A positive result means an increase from the original amount; a negative result means a decrease. The original value is the comparison baseline. For one year of data, this also works as an annual increase calculator.
Compare sales between periods, calculate an annual increase, or quantify a change in a quoted price.
| Input | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Original value | Enter a number of at least 0.000001 and no more than 1000000000000. |
| New value | Enter a number of at least -1000000000000 and no more than 1000000000000. |
Enter the earlier annual value as the original amount and the later annual value as the new amount. The percentage-change result is the annual increase or decrease for that interval.
Percentage change divides the difference by the original value. A zero baseline makes that division undefined; use the absolute change instead.
No. Starting at 100, a 20% decrease gives 80; increasing 80 by 20% gives 96. The baseline changes between the two operations.
