How to calculate

Evaluate scientific expressions with DEG/RAD modes, trigonometry, logarithms, powers, roots, constants, memory, and history.

Supports +, −, ×, ÷, powers, roots, parentheses, sin, cos, tan, inverse trigonometry, log, ln, π, e, factorial, reciprocal, and scientific notation.

Worked example

Expression: sqrt(3^2+4^2); Angle mode: deg.

Result: 5 .

Assumptions and limits

Expressions are parsed with an allow-listed mathematical grammar. No direct code evaluation is used.

Results are rounded for display; calculations use unrounded values. Read our calculation methodology.

Understanding the result

The result evaluates the expression using standard operator precedence and the selected DEG or RAD mode. Parentheses state the order explicitly.

When this tool is useful

Frequently asked questions

Does trigonometry use degrees or radians?

Choose DEG for degree values such as sin(30), or RAD for radian values such as sin(pi/6). The active mode is shown on the calculator display.

Why is -2^2 equal to -4?

Exponentiation is evaluated before the leading minus. Enter (-2)^2 to square the negative number and obtain 4.

Is calculation history uploaded?

No. Scientific-calculator history and memory stay in this browser and can be cleared.
