WLTP, CLTC, WLTC, EPA and NEDC range figures

Understand why driving-cycle range ratings are not interchangeable distance units.

Can you convert CLTC range to WLTP exactly?

No. Both may report kilometres, but the vehicle is tested using different driving patterns and procedures. A kilometre is the same distance; the predicted number of kilometres on a battery is not a universal physical conversion.

What the labels mean

Label: Meaning

WLTP: Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure: the broader test procedure.

WLTC: Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Cycle: driving-cycle profiles used within WLTP, not a separate universal conversion unit.

CLTC: China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle, developed to represent Chinese driving conditions.

EPA: US Environmental Protection Agency ratings based on US test procedures and adjustments.

NEDC: New European Driving Cycle, an older test cycle still encountered in historical specifications.

Compare like with like

Check model year, usable battery, wheel size, drivetrain and whether a figure is combined or city-only. Even a ratio from two ratings for one variant is not established for all vehicles. Weather, speed, elevation and heating also affect a real journey.

A transparent scenario

If you deliberately assume 80% of a reported 700 km, the arithmetic gives 560 km. This is an illustrative assumption, not a recommended CLTC-to-WLTP factor or regulatory equivalence. Our range scenario estimator offers an indicative typical estimate or a manual percentage you can enter. Neither mode guarantees a vehicle-specific range.

Sources and limits

Read the US test schedules, UNECE Global Technical Regulations, including GTR 15, and the research paper Development of China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle. Published benchmark ratios differ by vehicle and test procedure; do not treat them as a universal conversion.
