PSI and bar for tire pressure
Convert pressure units while keeping gauge pressure and vehicle recommendations separate.
The direct conversion
1 bar = 100 kilopascals (kPa), approximately 14.5038 pounds-force per square inch (PSI). To convert PSI to bar, multiply by 0.06894757293168361.
Example
A reading of 32 PSI is approximately 2.2063 bar or 220.6322 kPa. Rounding to 2.2 bar is usually easier to read, but the precision needed depends on your gauge and vehicle specification.
What this does not tell you
A unit conversion is not a recommended inflation pressure. Use the vehicle placard or handbook and its specified measurement conditions. Do not substitute the tire sidewall maximum for the vehicle recommendation.
Gauge versus absolute pressure
A tire gauge usually reads pressure relative to the surrounding air. A unit conversion preserves that reference; it does not add atmospheric pressure. Do not mix absolute and gauge values.
Use the PSI, bar and kPa converter. Unit definitions follow NIST SI conversion guidance.
