Seven business days from Friday: count with holidays and cutoffs

Work through a Friday start date while distinguishing inclusive counting, weekends and local holidays.

How it works

A business day commonly means a weekday excluding specified holidays, but a deadline may use a jurisdiction’s own calendar and cutoff hour. Decide whether the start day counts. For an order placed after the stated Friday cutoff, processing may start Monday, or later if Monday is a holiday. The calculator needs the precise start date, weekend rule and holiday list.

Use the inputs from your own situation and keep the units consistent. A calculator gives an arithmetic estimate under the assumptions you enter; compare it with real records before making a decision.

Worked example

Assume Friday 2 October 2026 is not counted, no holidays apply and Monday through Friday are business days. Day 1 is Monday 5 October; days 2–5 run Tuesday through Friday; day 6 is Monday 12 October and day 7 is Tuesday 13 October. If Monday 5 October is an excluded holiday, the seventh eligible day moves to Wednesday 14 October.

What to check

An estimated shipping window is not automatically a legal filing deadline. Local weekends can differ; time zones, public holidays and carrier service levels matter. Month and year boundaries are handled by counting dates rather than adding seven calendar days. Confirm the organization’s published policy.

Practical next step

Write down the cutoff, whether the start counts, the working-week pattern and the holiday jurisdiction. Count eligible dates in order and verify the result with the organization.
